Hand colored illustration from Edyth Sparag Studios (1940s - early 50s), featuring rather severe figure working a red print dress with off-center button placket and sash.
Edyth Sparag was a prolific New York designer working from the 30s-50s, a booming period for the garment industry when 3 out of 4 dresses sold in the US originated from the city. Designs from the Sparag Studios are now in the collections of The University of California, the Fashion Institute of New York (FIT), and The Skyscraper Museum in New York as examples chronicling women’s fashions of the period.
