Spring 2023 Outing to The Huntington

•  Spring Outing to The Huntington, Saturday, March 11th

Join us at this sprawling and historic property near Pasadena, California consisting of a vast research library, multiple art museum buildings, and a 130-acre botanical garden.

"Step out in style!" You'll find gorgeous photo settings everywhere. Active and retired service members are encouraged to wear your dress uniforms if you like.

TICKETS: Advance reservations are required for entry to the property, no walk-ins. Reservations are timed entry but our outing is happening all day.
Get your tickets at
https://tickets.huntington.org/

WE SUGGEST: A “Sustaining” membership for $159 gets 1-year admission for you plus an adult guest. Accompanying children under 18 are free.

PARKING is free but the lot may become full, plan accordingly.

NOTE: Gardens and galleries close at 5p. Plan for lots of walking, many paths are gravel and some are rough or have long inclines. No picnicking allowed, but have a great lunch at the 1919 Cafe or other restaurants inside the property.

DON’T MISS :  "Inspiring Walt Disney: The Animation of French Decorative Arts" in the Boone Gallery building. This exhibit explores Walt Disney's fascination with European art and the use of French motifs in Disney films and theme parks.

Because the Huntington property is so massive, here’s our suggested tour:

  • After checking in at ticketing, turn right and head west to the Boone Gallery building for the exhibit "Inspiring Walt Disney" (You could detour through the orchid conservatory greenhouse on the way!)
  • After exiting the Boone Gallery, you’ll be near the Chinese garden to your left. Get lunch there at Jade Court Cafe (closes 4p) at the north end, or have a boba tea and snack at the Freshwater Pavilion (closes 3:30p) at the south end.
  • Next visit the Japanese garden which connects to the south end of the Chinese garden. Don’t miss the tucked-away bonsai garden! Then...
  • Want more plants? Cross through the Australian garden to the alien-like succulents in the desert garden.
  • Want more art? Pass through the rose garden to either the European collections in the Huntington Mansion, or the American collections in the Scott galleries.
  • At The Huntington’s exit, finish your day with an ice cream at the Red Car Coffee Shop (closes 5:30p) Visit the gift shop for exclusive items from the "Inspiring Walt Disney" exhibit.
